Today we had a nice group of sperm whales far to the west.
It was a long trip to get to them and back again to Ponta Delgada, but the trip
was well worth it, both in the morning and in the afternoon.

It was one of those days where it payed off to go the extra mile to show our resident whales to the guests. Luckily on the way to and from the whale area we also had groups of dolphins to enjoy and keep us company.
In the morning we registered encounters with Risso’s dolphins, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic spotted dolphins. In the afternoon we encountered a group of bottlenose dolphins close to Ponta Delgada and a group of common dolphins halfway to the whale area.

We saw male sperm whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins,
bottlenose and striped dolphins.

Thanks to our research and photo ID, we were
able to realize that the group of male sperm whales and the group of bottlenose
dolphins were the same individuals we saw in the morning and in the afternoon.
