A morning of great sightings!

This morning we experienced a perfect calm sea, probably the calmest and clearest waters so far this year. Out there we encountered three of our resident cetacean species.

Our favourite encounter would have to be with the sperm whales. We had to go far to see them and it took a while to find a nice group that stayed at the surface. But our patience paid off and we ended up seeing a big male. Within minutes the male was joined by several females who surfaced and went to join him one by one.

In the end we counted 7 females surrounding this big male, with all of them calm at the surface and sometimes rolling around to show parts of their head and tail tips. After some time the male separated from the females and ended the encounter nicely with a big impressive tail up in the air.

As for the other two resident species, we enjoyed the company of a big and active group of bottlenose dolphins at the start of the tour, and later towards the whale area, we came across some common dolphins gliding through the calm clear waters around our boats.

Some people aboard our zodiac boat also spotted a loggerhead turtle and from our catamaran we spotted two sharks while we were travelling.
