July 2014 Sighting Statistics

This past month we have encountered 10 different cetacean species: fin whales, sei whales (the last baleen whales of the season), sperm whales, false killer whales, pilot whales, Risso’s dolphins, striped dolphins, Atlantic spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and common dolphins. Every day that we went to sea we encountered at least 3 different species, and one day we even encountered 7 different species! We also encountered many loggerhead turtles, ocean sunfish, marlin and hammerhead sharks. Below are the daily encounter frequencies of all cetacean species encountered in July:
