Although we can already feel some cold wind as winter draws near, our weather conditions are simply amazing! Glassy sea, amazing visibility and the cold fresh air of the Azores. And to top it all off, our cetaceans have great surprises for us.
Although we can already feel some cold wind as winter draws near, our weather conditions are simply amazing! Glassy sea, amazing visibility and the cold fresh air of the Azores. And to top it all off, our cetaceans have great surprises for us.
As yesterday we found a small pod of bottlenose dolphins close to the harbour who were very shy and doing some long dives.
We continued our trip as our lookouts told us a feast was going on outside of Vila Franca with hundreds of common dolphins and soon after a Sei whale joined the pod to try and feed also.
We saw a lot of schooling fish trying to hide under our boat as dolphins swim past us to snatch a single fish. We turned our attention away from the dolphins to see the whale as it just came for air and kept on swimming in circles. We were thrilled to witness this happening at this time of year but as we were with the animals for about 30 minutes we left them to continue feeding and their daily habits.
The lookouts haven’t seen anything else so they sent us to look also to cover more area of the sea and luckily after a while our zodiac discovered a giant pod of Atlantic spotted dolphins that were so interested in the boat that it almost seemed like they never saw one because they followed our boat for a long time and from really close!
