{"id":986,"date":"2016-07-18T18:34:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T18:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/18\/a-sunny-day-with-spring-and-summer\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:35:22","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:35:22","slug":"a-sunny-day-with-spring-and-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/a-sunny-day-with-spring-and-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"A sunny day with spring and summer species"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nIt&#8217;s been a fantastic sunny day in S\u00e3o Miguel and we have enjoyed it out on the ocean encountering some of our resident dolphin species as well as seasonal and migratory species that typically occur here during the spring to summer time. In the morning we started with a group of our resident <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common dolphins<\/a>, who were curious and keen to swim with our boats like usual. Further to the east we encountered a <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/fin-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fin whale<\/a> which we all managed to see. From one of our boats further to the east some <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/northern-bottlenose-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">northern bottlenose whales<\/a> were also seen from a distance and from another boat some <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/striped-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">striped dolphins<\/a> among a feeding group of common dolphins and <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/corys-shearwater-fact-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cory&#8217;s shearwaters<\/a>. The final species of the morning was the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/atlantic-spotted-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlantic spotted dolphin<\/a>, a common summer time species. In the afternoon we started with the common dolphins again and then set of further out to see a group of <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/pilot-whale-spp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pilot whales<\/a>. It was only our second encounter with them this year, so it was a privelege. It was great to see some small babies in the group too. We ended the afternoon with two large fin whales closer to shore.
