{"id":984,"date":"2016-07-20T18:59:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-20T18:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/20\/6-species-in-summer-day\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:35:22","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:35:22","slug":"6-species-in-summer-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/6-species-in-summer-day\/","title":{"rendered":"6 species on a summer day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nDuring our tours today we had the opportunity to see 6 different species of cetaceans.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nWe started the morning with our more common sighting&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\">common dolphins<\/a>! after them we found a nice pod of <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\">bottlenose dolphins<\/a>. We stayed with them for a while &nbsp;but once we had news from our look out we had to keep going! The look out had great news for us, a fin whale! the second largest animal in the world (a species that we usually see just during the spring time) delighted us with its presence.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nIn the way to the fin whale we were surprised with a special encounter, a family of <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\">Risso&#8217;s dolphin<\/a>. Despite this species being resident in the Azores we don&#8217;t encounter them really often so we can say that this sighting made our day!.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nOn the way back to Ponta Delgada, after a great tour, one of our boats was lucky enough to see <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/atlantic-spotted-dolphin.html\">atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a>&#8230; a summer species!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nThe sightings from the afternoon were really different, as we always say&#8230; every tour is a surprise in the Azores!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nWe started the tour with s<a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\">perm whales<\/a>, we had to wait for them for while (they were doing a deep dive), but patience pays off and we could enjoy the presence of two individuals surfacing really calm for a while, doing shallow dives every once in a while.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nWe finished the day with common and <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\">bottlenose dolphins<\/a>, we could see many babies in both groups!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"color: #0b5394;
