{"id":900,"date":"2016-10-19T18:22:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T18:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2016\/10\/19\/wonderful-autumn\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:35:46","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:35:46","slug":"wonderful-autumn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wonderful-autumn\/","title":{"rendered":"Wonderful autumn!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">It is not<br \/>\nsummer time anymore in the Azores, but we are really happy with the sightings<br \/>\nthat we have had in autumn so far. <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">In the<br \/>\nmorning our lookout gave us the indications to find a friendly group of<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bottlenose dolphins<\/a>. We found a group that we know very well\u2026&#8221;bubblemaker&#8217;s&#8221; group! It is always a pleasure to see them; they are usually calm and<br \/>\nfriendly towards the boat, allowing our clients to take beautiful pictures of<br \/>\nthem. These pictures are also really important for our research as we are doing<br \/>\nphoto identification.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">After the<br \/>\ndolphins, we headed further away from the coast (about 8 miles) to find a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogger.com\/Fin%20whale:%20http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/fin-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fin whale<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe fin whale from today had the same behavior as the fin whales we<br \/>\nencountered yesterday: coming to the surface just for one or two blows and<br \/>\ngoing down, surfacing in a different place every time.<\/span>It was difficult to see<br \/>\nthe whale but our clients could see the blow several times and even its dorsal<br \/>\nfin.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">In the<br \/>\nafternoon we found a nice group of about 30 to 40&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/false-orcafalse-killer-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">false killer whales<\/a>. In the Azores<br \/>\nfalse killer whales are sighted occasionally, this year we have seen them eight<br \/>\ntimes so far.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">We are<br \/>\nalways really excited about seeing this species as they are not shy towards boats<br \/>\nand are frequently seen riding bow waves. Today we had the opportunity to see these animals feeding on tuna. Like the orcas (also known as killer whales), false killer whales can feed on dolphins and whales, but they feed more commonly on large fish and squid.<span style=\"background-color: white; font-size: 14px;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span>Our whale watching boat found a group of bottlenose dolphins and the swimming with dolphins boat also found <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common dolphins<\/a>&nbsp;to end the afternoon tour.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:
