\nThis afternoon we had a perfect tour out on a calm ocean. A few miles off the coast of Ponta Delgada was the group of sperm whales<\/a> from the morning. We didn’t have to wait long for the whales to surface from the depths. We started our whale encounters with 4 whales, 3 adults and a young baby. Soon more whales came up until we could count a total of 8 whales together! The whales were just as calm as the ocean, so it was a truly magical experience to be able to observe them like this as the surface. We also got to see 5 different tails, most likely new additions to our catalogue as we didn’t recognise them. We ended our sperm whale encounters in the beautiful golden light before sunset. As well as these whales we also encountered a young loggerhead turtle<\/a> who was just as curious to see us as we were to see it. We even had the opportunity to play our part in ocean conservation by taking a large net out of the ocean, removing a serious threat to countless marine animals as this type of ghost gear does not biodegrade and therefore continues to kill marine life over the years. It was a perfect afternoon with a great sunset in the marina upon our return.<\/div>\n
