This is a widely<br \/>\ndistributed species, inhabiting deep oceanic and continental slope waters 400-<br \/>\n1,000 m deep from the tropics through the temperate regions in both<br \/>\nhemispheres. Sighting records indicate this species occurs roughly between 60\u00b0N<br \/>\nand 60\u00b0S latitudes, where surface water temperature are above 10 \u00b0C. Risso&#8217;s<br \/>\ndolphins are pelagic, mostly occurring seaward of the continental slope. They<br \/>\nfrequent subsurface sea-mounts and escarpments where they are thought to feed<br \/>\non vertically migrant and mesopelagic cephalopods. In the North Atlantic and<br \/>\nwestern Pacific, there appears to be a summer calving peak and a winter calving<br \/>\npeak in the eastern Pacific. They are are often seen surfacing slowly, although<br \/>\nthey can be energetic, sometimes breaching or porpoising, and occasionally<br \/>\nbowriding. Normally Risso\u2019s associate in groups tend to be small to moderate in<br \/>\nsize, from 2-100 individuals, averaging 30 animals, but groups of up to 4,000<br \/>\nhave been reported, presumably in response to abundant food resources. Risso&#8217;s<br \/>\ndolphins prey on a mix of neritic, oceanic, and occasionally bottom dwelling<br \/>\ncephalopods and they normally feed at day. Risso\u2019s are often seen surfacing<br \/>\nslowly, although they can be energetic, sometimes breaching or porpoising, and<br \/>\noccasionally bowriding <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: 150%;
