{"id":774,"date":"2017-06-05T17:55:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-05T17:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/05\/a-day-with-5-species\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:36:23","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:36:23","slug":"a-day-with-5-species","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/a-day-with-5-species\/","title":{"rendered":"A day with 5 species"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">We had a<br \/>\nbeautiful day today; the ocean was full of life proving that the Azores is one<br \/>\nof the best places in the world to see whales and dolphins.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">In the<br \/>\nmorning we saw the three species of dolphins that are resident in these<br \/>\nislands. We started with a big group of <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common dolphins<\/a> that, as usual, were<br \/>\nfriendly with the boat approaching us really close. The second species of<br \/>\ndolphin that we saw was the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bottlenose dolphin<\/a>, they were socializing with each<br \/>\nother, we could see some of them mating and jumping out of the water, probably trying<br \/>\nto show off\u2026&nbsp; In the same area of the<br \/>\nbottlenose dolphins we found a pod of <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Risso\u2019s dolphins<\/a>! They were travelling<br \/>\nreally fast, it looked like some bottlenose dolphins were chasing after the<br \/>\nRisso\u2019s dolphins, sometimes it is possible to see different species travelling<br \/>\nor socializing with each other in a friendly way but today it seemed that they<br \/>\nwere not.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"background: white; line-height: 16pt; margin: 4.8pt 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Our encounters with the whales in the morning<br \/>\nwere really good too. We saw the largest animals in the world travelling<br \/>\ntogether. At least 5 <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/fin-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fin whales <\/a>(including a mom and a calf) together with a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/01\/blue-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blue whale<\/a>. This association is not strange for us, in our waters we see both<br \/>\nspecies travelling together sometimes, and actually, hybrids of fin whales and<br \/>\nblue whales are well documented.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background: white; line-height: 16pt; margin: 4.8pt 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">In the afternoon tour we manage to see lots of bottlenose dolphins, spread out not very far from the coast. We found later on a small group of common dolpins, even without babies this time. Whales were not so easy to find as in the morning, but we tried, and finally we found it! A fin whale again completed our afternoon trip.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"background: white; line-height: 16pt; margin: 4.8pt 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br
