\nAugust was a mixed weather month, or we had great conditions with a flat ocean or a lot of wind and rain and so there were some trips cancelled. But when we were out, we had a lot of beautiful sightings. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\nThe <\/span>common dolphins<\/a><\/span> resulted to be our number one as usual but the second rank went to our
\nsummer guest the seasonal Atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a><\/span> which are quite
\nspecial. This summer we found big pods and they were often giving shows of
\nflat or high leaps. <\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\nPosition number 3 went to the sperm whales<\/a> <\/span>which were a bit less abundant
\nthan the months before but the claimed again there common ranking. They were
\nfollowed by the <\/span>bottlenose dolphins<\/a><\/span> and the <\/span>Risso’s dolphins<\/a><\/span> so our four
\nresidents on the top five. <\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n<\/a><\/div>\n

We came across Striped dolphins<\/a><\/span>, <\/span>Sowerby’s beaked whales<\/span><\/a> and pilot whales<\/a><\/span> in this order of frequency and we even saw to baleen whale species. Sei whale<\/a><\/span> <\/span>and Minke whale<\/a><\/span> each once, so more exceptional sightings to have a “spring” species in summer. <\/span>

\n<\/span>
\nOccasionally we enjoyed other wildlife apart from the cetaceans like <\/span>sunfish<\/a>, devil rays<\/a>, hammerhead sharks<\/a>, blue shark and loggerhead turtles<\/a>. <\/span>
\nFlying fish were quite often seen and the first half of the months we still meet a lot of Portuguese man-o-war<\/a> which had quite an extended season this year. <\/span>

\n<\/span>
\nSea birds; apart from the common sightings of Cory’s Shearwater<\/a>, common terns<\/a> and the yellow-legged seagulls<\/a>, we had regular sightings of Bulwer’s petrels<\/a> and the last week of August we finally observed the Great Shearwater<\/a> more often.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
