The sun was shining, the water was crystalline and had<br \/>\nintense shades of blue and of course, cetaceans were showing us their most<br \/>\nbeautiful behaviours. When we got there, we<br \/>\ncould find a few individuals but they were quite elusive and spread out. That&#8217;s<br \/>\nwhy we decided to leave the area and go to find a different species.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">After a short<br \/>\nnavigation, approaching to the coast, right in front of Caloura, we found a big<br \/>\ngroup of <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\">common dolphins<\/a>. They were constantly bowriding, making noises. The<br \/>\nwater was so clear that it felt like being in the water with them. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">It was also<br \/>\na great opportunity for getting photos for Photo-ID: perfect lighting, perfect<br \/>\npositioning and lots of animals.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/7-5.png\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"600\" data-original-width=\"900\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/7-5.png\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a> <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">In the afternoon the<br \/>\nwind picked up a bit but everything was fine. We just left the<br \/>\nharbour and tumbled across a nice group of common dolphins. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">After a short while we<br \/>\nfollowed the call of our other boat which heard the sperm whales thanks to the<br \/>\nhydrophone. We came to the area of <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2019\/09\/sperm-whales-interacting-with.html\"><i>Orca<\/i> the Sperm whale female <\/a>with<br \/>\na calf which we already found in the morning socialising but in the afternoon<br \/>\nit looked like it was nursing the calf before it went for a deep sea dive<br \/>\nshowing its fluke. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/3-8.png\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"600\" data-original-width=\"900\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/3-8.png\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">Then the calf started<br \/>\nto swim faster and showed us the direction of three more sperm whales and one<br \/>\nmore fluked while the others went for shallow dives.
