{"id":685,"date":"2017-09-08T18:18:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-08T18:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/08\/sperm-whales-in-ocean-full-of-dolphins\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:36:53","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:36:53","slug":"sperm-whales-in-ocean-full-of-dolphins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/sperm-whales-in-ocean-full-of-dolphins\/","title":{"rendered":"Sperm whales in ocean full of dolphins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning we had several encounters of various species like the resident <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common dolphins<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Risso&#8217;s dolphins<\/a> and the seasonal <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/atlantic-spotted-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a>. The zodiacs managed to see a <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sei-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sei whale<\/a>&nbsp;or two, which is not a regular sight at this time of the year. In the afternoon we found some <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sperm whales<\/a> and again several groups of Atlantic spotted dolphins and from a zodiac some common dolphins too. We got the chance to enjoy some sperm whale tails and active behavior of the Atlantic spotted dolphins. They were approaching with speed to our vessels to ride the bow or made some acrobatic leaps a bit further away. We also met seabirds like <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/corys-shearwater-fact-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cory&#8217;s shearwaters<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/great-shearwater-fact-sheet_3172.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">great shearwaters<\/a> even one bird with a huge fish (compared to its body size) in its mouth, so that we could witness its success from the distance. <\/p>\n<p><b style=\"background-color: white; font-family: &quot;Open Sans&quot;; font-size:
