{"id":672,"date":"2017-09-22T15:53:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-22T15:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/22\/summer-statistics\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:36:58","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:36:58","slug":"summer-statistics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/summer-statistics\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Today the<br \/>\nocean is too rough to go out, so we are using this time to compare our<br \/>\nsightings of this year and last year.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">The<br \/>\nhighlight this year has been the presence of Bryde\u2019s whales, a species that has<br \/>\nbeen seen very little in the archipelago over the past 10 years, with<br \/>\nencounters registered only in 2009 and 2013. This year we have also noticed<br \/>\nthat sei whales have been around later than usual, as we continue to encounter<br \/>\nthem now in the middle of September. Also, Atlantic spotted dolphins have been<br \/>\nmore sighted during this summer. So what do all these species have in common??<br \/>\nThey all feed on small fish, which we have seen very frequently during this<br \/>\nseason: balls of fish and large feeding frenzies!<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Junho.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;\"><img border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"466\" data-original-width=\"769\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Junho.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">During this<br \/>\nmonth we noticed that Atlantic spotted dolphins arrived earlier than last year.<br \/>\nAs for blue whales, this year they stayed for a month longer. During this month we were<br \/>\nsurprised that Bryde\u2019s whales appeared for the first time since 2013.
