{"id":66983,"date":"2022-05-03T15:13:50","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T16:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/?p=66983"},"modified":"2022-12-07T11:52:41","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T12:52:41","slug":"sightings-statistics-april-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/sightings-statistics-april-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Sightings statistics April 2022 in S\u00e3o Miguel island"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Although the weather did not help us much, in April we managed to spot 10 species of cetaceans, some of them very special!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img width=\"800\" height=\"499\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Avistamentos-mensais-Abril22.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66984\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Avistamentos-mensais-Abril22.jpg 800w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Avistamentos-mensais-Abril22-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Avistamentos-mensais-Abril22-768x479.jpg 768w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Avistamentos-mensais-Abril22-380x237.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>We were accompanied throughout the month by our resident common dolphins and bottlenose dolphins that always delight everyone on board. We were able to identify some bottlenose dolphins that are well known by our company for several years, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/acoreswhalewatching\/posts\/7679900215384139\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Egyptian and the Submarine<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>We also had the opportunity to see striped dolphins that cause astonishment with their continuous high-speed jumps and their elegant stripes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Another month in which we had the opportunity to see our resident whales, the sperm whales. As if showing their tails wasn&#8217;t enough, they even surprised us with some tail slapping and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/acoreswhalewatching\/photos\/pcb.7792421344132025\/7792420800798746\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">breaches<\/a> in front of our boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>In this best season to see baleen whales in the Azores, we managed to spot 4 species! The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/acoreswhalewatching\/posts\/7759593084081518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blue whale<\/a>, which always impresses us with its enormous size for being the biggest animal that ever existed on planet Earth. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/futurismopico\/photos\/pcb.1648874302150079\/1648874272150082\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fin whale<\/a>, the second-largest animal, the sei whale and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/acoreswhalewatching\/photos\/pcb.7773473312693495\/7773468222694004\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">humpback whale<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>To end the month in the best way, we got to see two species that we don&#8217;t see very often.
