Futurismo has several complementary projects linked to Whale watching. One of which involves photo-identification, which consists of identifying individuals of a particular species based on physical characteristics, such as dorsal and caudal fins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 15th of March 2022, one of the humpback whales from our catalog was sighted in Cape Verde. The first time this individual was recorded was in Cape Verde, in 2011, and since then it has been seen with some frequency. In 2018 this individual, MNSM0043, was identified off S\u00e3o Miguel Island’s coast for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it can be seen, photo-identification is an essential tool to understand the migratory and\/or behavioral patterns of many species. Thus, it was thanks to the collaboration that we have with the Atlantic humpback whale photo-identification network and the information shared that we managed to discover this match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, this is not the first time that we have a match of humpback whales<\/a> between the Azores and Cape Verde. And even from the Azores to Russia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
