Despite the lower frequency of observation compared with the previously mentioned species, we were also able to sight Risso&#8217;s dolphins in 21% of our adventures!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img width=\"767\" height=\"542\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66538\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/3.jpg 767w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/3-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/3-380x269.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 100vw, 767px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This last year we returned to the north coast. We had the opportunity and privilege of sighting the largest number of sperm whales, from multiple newborn, to older individuals jumping, and even the classic flukes that emerge moments before a deep feeding dive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img width=\"921\" height=\"652\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/4.jpg 921w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/4-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/4-768x544.jpg 768w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/4-380x269.jpg 380w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/4-800x566.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 921px) 100vw, 921px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As previously mentioned, the year 2021 was a stuffed one! Besides being presented with a considerable number of baleen whales, including sightings of blue whales, fin whales, and humpback whales, the months of October and onwards brought us together with sei whales which, to our surprise, acquired a taste for our waters. This species is known to reside in our waters between the months of March and June, meaning that 2021 was an atypical year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img width=\"980\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-66542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/5.jpg 980w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/5-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/5-768x543.jpg 768w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/5-380x269.jpg 380w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/5-800x566.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the dolphin families that can be sighted during the summer months, spotted dolphins were present in larger numbers. Furthermore, despite in lower numbers, species like the striped dolphin and the pilot whale were also sighted during this summer season.
