Today is another day that we were not able to go to the sea due to the weather conditions. However, our biologist team took advantage of the day to continue with the #InternationalCoastalCleanupDay.<\/span>

People in Ponta Delgada spontaneously joined us!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\nOn yesterday\u2019s cleanup we covered an area of 4050 m2<\/b> in Populo Beach, in S\u00e3o Miguel Island and we collected a total of 50 kg of garbage<\/b>. Today we analysed it and separated into groups of plastic, glass and undifferentiated.<\/span>
\n
<\/span>
\n<\/p>\n

\nAmong the articles founded, you can find below a list of the most common in order of abundance:<\/span>
\n
<\/span>
\n– Large rigid plastic<\/span>
\n– Plastic bottle lids<\/span>
\n– Ropes<\/span>
\n– Wrappers<\/span>
\n– Plastic bottles<\/span>
\n– Straws<\/span>
\n– Toothbrushes<\/span>
\n– Cotton buds to clean the ears<\/span>
\n– Glass bottles<\/span>
\n– Crystal<\/span>
\n

\nAnd also articles of some local concern as:<\/span>
\n
<\/span>
\n– Syringes<\/span>
\n– Bullet cartridges<\/span>
\n
<\/span>
\n<\/p>\n

Once separated into 3 types, we returned to weigh and obtained a total of 34,7 kg of plastic, 15,3kg of undifferentiated and 1,6 kg of Glass (Total: 50kg)<\/b><\/span>

\nWith all of this data, we have shared our report with the international initiative Ocean Conservancy<\/a> that works with millions of volunteers of all ages from all around the world. Each time a cleaning is organized, this site gives you the option to submit your data with a simple form<\/a> and also submit your cleanup location.<\/span>
\n

\nAfter the separation, we went to a recycling point of the marina of Ponta Delgada where we correctly deposited the garbage in its appropriate bins.<\/span>

\nSo, encourage to organize a cleaning with yours or join us in the next coastal cleaning! Every piece of trash that is taken away to be recycled or deposited in a landfill means there is one less dangerous item for birds, turtles or whales to swallow.<\/span>

\nCleanups also restore these creatures\u2019 habitats and made our beaches more beautiful. But also remember that we have to be aware of our consumption and our waste production.<\/span>
