\nWe had a
\nbeautiful calm morning with very little wind and a comfortable swell.<\/span><\/div>\n
\n
\nWe soon encountered
\na huge pod of spotted dolphins<\/a>, the summer migratory species.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/span><\/div>\n

This pod had many juveniles bow-riding and there were some mother and calf pairs as well. The water was so calm and clear that we could see the dolphins really well underwater. <\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nAt some point we saw lots of dolphins gathered in an area with a
\nhuge school of fish! So, a part of the pod was definitely foraging. <\/span><\/span>
\nWe even saw
\na couple of Cory’s shearwater successfully flying away with a fish in their
\nbeak.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\nThen 2 of
\nour boats managed to see Sei whales<\/a>! There were likely 3 of them in total.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe main
\nmigration pattern of the Sei whales is in spring time towards the north but it
\nseems like not all of them are going so far because from time to time there are
\nsome Sei whales appearing at this time of the year. So maybe in the future we
\ngot more scientific proof to have a better understanding of how these animals
\nmove and where they feed.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n

\n<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n

\n<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n

\nAt first,
\nthey seemed calm, but at some point, a school of fish was visible. Then
\nsuddenly, the tail of the Sei whale appeared on the side moving swiftly towards
\nthe school of fish. Although this action happened underwater, and only the side
\nof the fluke was visible, we think that this Sei whale was feeding on the
\nlittle fish! <\/span>Quite an exciting morning!<\/span><\/div>\n

\nIn the
\nafternoon we had another tour like in the morning. We saw two species and this
\ntime all boats could see them. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nThe sea was
\nfull of Atlantic spotted dolphins foraging. There were a lot of areas with
\nseabirds and dolphins hunting small fishes. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n

\n

\nAlso close
\nto the area of a group of dolphins we spotted a sei whale that we thought that
\nwas foraging also. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nWe can say that today we had a not resident species day.
\nAtlantic spotted dolphins are seasonal, we can see them in summer and autumn
\ntime, when the waters are warm. Then the Sei whales are migratory animals so
\nthey are not staying during long time in azorean waters.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
