Todos os anos, mais de 8 milh\u00f5es de toneladas de pl\u00e1stico s\u00e3o despejadas nos nossos oceanos. Os <strong>micropl\u00e1sticos secund\u00e1rios<\/strong> s\u00e3o derivados da degrada\u00e7\u00e3o de diferentes produtos por meio de radia\u00e7\u00e3o, abras\u00e3o, fragmenta\u00e7\u00e3o ou mesmo lavagem, entre os quais encontramos tintas para edif\u00edcios e estradas, t\u00eaxteis e vestu\u00e1rio e p\u00f3 de pneus de ve\u00edculos (que \u00e9 de longe uma das principais fontes). Fontes terrestres, como embalagens ou itens de uso di\u00e1rio, representam cerca de 80% do pl\u00e1stico que vai para o oceano; enquanto as fontes mar\u00edtimas est\u00e3o principalmente ligadas ao transporte mar\u00edtimo e \u00e0 pesca (Eunomia, 2016; UNEP, 2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-3.png\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"54501\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-3.png\" data-link=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=54501\" class=\"wp-image-54502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-3.png 900w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-3-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-3-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-3-380x253.png 380w, https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/10-3-800x533.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>O pl\u00e1stico foi encontrado em todo o ambiente marinho, desde zonas costeiras e \u00e1guas superficiais, ao fundo do mar e fossas oce\u00e2nicas profundas com mais de 5700 m (Fischer et al., 2014). Na verdade, cerca de 94% do lixo pl\u00e1stico marinho vai parar ao fundo do oceano (Eunomia,&nbsp; 2016),&nbsp; com uma concentra\u00e7\u00e3o m\u00e9dia de 70 kg \/ km2 (Pham <em>et al., <\/em>2014).&nbsp;&nbsp; Apenas 1% do pl\u00e1stico marinho \u00e9 encontrado a flutuar nas \u00e1guas superficiais ou subterr\u00e2neas, com uma concentra\u00e7\u00e3o m\u00e9dia de 0,74 kg \/ km2. De acordo com a circula\u00e7\u00e3o geral dos oceanos, os detritos marinhos flutuantes tendem a agregar-se em concentra\u00e7\u00f5es maiores nos cinco giros subtropicais; e at\u00e9 agora, a concentra\u00e7\u00e3o m\u00e1xima (18 kg \/ km2) foi medida no Giro do Pac\u00edfico Norte (Eriksen <em>et al., <\/em>2014). O resto \u00e9 levado para a costa, principalmente praias, onde uma concentra\u00e7\u00e3o surpreendente de mais de 1000 kg \/ km2 (algumas estimativas excedem mesmo 2000 kg \/ km2) foi relatada (Andrady, 2011; Eunomia, 2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devido \u00e0 localiza\u00e7\u00e3o remota dos A\u00e7ores, no meio do Atl\u00e2ntico e no extremo norte do Giro Subtropical do Atl\u00e2ntico Norte, avaliar a abund\u00e2ncia e composi\u00e7\u00e3o do lixo encontrado na costa a\u00e7oriana torna-se uma \u00f3tima ferramenta para melhor compreender o estado de sa\u00fade do nosso oceano. At\u00e9 ao momento, os estudos sobre detritos marinhos ao redor dessas ilhas ainda s\u00e3o escassos e foram realizados apenas recentemente (Pieper&nbsp; <em>et&nbsp; al,&nbsp; <\/em>2015;&nbsp; Pham&nbsp; <em>et&nbsp; al.,&nbsp; <\/em>2013; Chambault <em>et al., <\/em>2018; R\u00edos <em>et al., <\/em>2018). Chambault <em>et al. <\/em>(2018) descobriram que os detritos marinhos flutuantes em redor do arquip\u00e9lago s\u00e3o compostos principalmente por itens de pl\u00e1stico, embalagens e equipamentos de pesca, e sua densidade \u00e9 maior em redor das ilhas do arquip\u00e9lago do que nas \u00e1guas circundantes, particularmente em redor do grupo central. Pieper <em>et al. <\/em>(2015) e Rios <em>et al. <\/em>(2018) analisaram o lixo marinho encontrado nas praias da Ilha do Faial e em todo o arquip\u00e9lago respetivamente, e em ambos os casos, o pl\u00e1stico foi o tipo de lixo encontrado com maior abund\u00e2ncia. Surpreendentemente, Pieper reportou pl\u00e1stico nos A\u00e7ores com r\u00f3tulos do Canad\u00e1, Vietname e outros pa\u00edses distantes, o que refor\u00e7a a import\u00e2ncia de uma preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o global.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al\u00e9m disso, a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de res\u00edduos no arquip\u00e9lago aumentou a uma taxa de 4% no ano passado (o que sup\u00f5e mais 5600 toneladas de res\u00edduos produzidos em 2017 do que em 2016), parcialmente devido ao aumento da popula\u00e7\u00e3o flutuante (ou seja, turismo). Em S\u00e3o Miguel, onde existe uma maior influ\u00eancia tur\u00edstica, esta tend\u00eancia \u00e9 particularmente not\u00e1vel. Os litorais s\u00e3o as \u00e1reas mais visivelmente afetadas; e, portanto, pesquisas de praia podem fornecer uma boa abordagem para avaliar o lixo marinho ao n\u00edvel local. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O potencial de identificar as principais fontes do pl\u00e1stico \/ lixo encontrado nas nossas zonas costeiras, bem como de abordar poss\u00edveis formas de reduzi-lo, pode ser uma \u00f3tima ferramenta para influenciar a gest\u00e3o local e sensibilizar a sociedade. Al\u00e9m disso, este tipo de programa de monitoriza\u00e7\u00e3o de longo prazo de lixo marinho nas praias avan\u00e7a para atender ao Descriptor 10, &#8220;Propriedades e quantidades de lixo marinho n\u00e3o causam danos ao ambiente costeiro e marinho&#8221;, da Marine&nbsp;&nbsp; Strategy&nbsp; Framework&nbsp;&nbsp; Directive (MSFD ) para avaliar um &#8220;bom status ambiental&#8221; (European Commission, 2 018).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como empresa de turismo respons\u00e1vel que opera dentro do ambiente natural, a Futurismo preocupa-se com o impacto do pl\u00e1stico no nosso meio. A atividade principal da empresa decorre na Ilha de S\u00e3o Miguel, pelo que o cuidado com o meio ambiente \u00e9 uma dever para n\u00f3s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Procuramos minimizar o nosso impacto nas nossas atividades di\u00e1rias, recolhendo lixo do mar, minimizando o uso de pl\u00e1stico e embalagens nos nossos piqueniques, ou evitando o pl\u00e1stico descart\u00e1vel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No entanto, reconhecemos que s\u00e3o necess\u00e1rios mais esfor\u00e7os, n\u00e3o s\u00f3 para mudar os nossos h\u00e1bitos e atitudes para um estilo de vida mais sustent\u00e1vel, mas tamb\u00e9m para aumentar a consci\u00eancia da sociedade.
