We have a new record for blue whales<\/a> – we have seen them every day off S\u00e3o <\/span>Miguel Island for the last 15 days in a row<\/b>! We have never had such a great <\/span>season for blue whales, making us feel very lucky. This morning we <\/span>encountered two blue whales traveling together, often surfacing in unison. <\/span>It was a beautiful moment, especially since the ocean was completely flat <\/span>and calm. We also encountered fin whale<\/a>s today – two very curious <\/span>individuals that approached us in the morning and four just as curious <\/span>individuals in the afternoon. With the ocean being so calm and blue like <\/span>this it’s difficult to believe it is not summer yet, but we are constantly <\/span>reminded by the abundance of blue whales and fin whales that we are still <\/span>in the spring migration period. We also enjoyed the company of a huge group <\/span>of bottlenose dolphins<\/a> throughout the day. They put a good show on for us <\/span>by approaching our boats to check us out and often leaping out of the water <\/span>so we could really see their impressive size. It was another impressive day <\/span>of whale and dolphin watching off S\u00e3o Miguel Island.<\/span><\/span>
