{"id":47704,"date":"2020-01-12T15:24:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-12T16:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/?p=47704"},"modified":"2020-01-24T15:38:02","modified_gmt":"2020-01-24T16:38:02","slug":"first-sperm-whales-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/first-sperm-whales-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"First sperm whales of the year!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today was very chill and cloudy, what gave the sea a dark coloration,  making it a bit harder to find the animals, although, despite the  conditions, our lookouts gave us indication to head east of the island. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the trip there, we had the company of a small group of one of our  resident species, the common dolphin, swiming alongside us but not  interacting that much. <br> Moments after arriving to the location our lookout pointed, a juvenile  Sperm Whale\u2019s blow was spotted, the first of 2020, after just a bit on  the surface we stopped seeing him, and a few minutes later we were very  lucky to find an adult with its calve in what was very likely a feeding  behaviour (mother feeding its calve).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a few moments the adult dove, returning to its own feeding  pattern. Two more sperm whales were seen when we were leaving the area  but it was running late and we wanted a bit more time close to dolphins. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We got closer to the Island and our lookout spotted the best pod of  dolphins of the morning and they were feeding, our faithfull common  dolphins made an entertainig appearance, a group of about 50 individuals  aproaching and swiming alongside the boat. It was the perfect way to  end our Sunday trip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><a
