\nToday we saw seven species of toothed cetaceans, the Odontoceti ones. <\/span><\/div>\n

\nWhile we were waiting for the sperm whales<\/a>, a group of bottlenose dolphins<\/a> <\/span>appeared and started to be curious about our boat. Then the sperm whales showed up the tail and we had to move to see them. After we went to see a nice group of Atlantic spotted dolphins but in the way, we saw a group of beaked whales, animals really rare to see. <\/span><\/div>\n

\nOn the way back to Ponta Delgada we could see a false killer whale with some common dolphin<\/a>s in the same area!!! The false killer whales are really good predators but looks like that they were more interested with a boat that was fishing than for the dolphins.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nThen in the afternoon when we were going to the sperm whale area our small boat saw a blow that looked like from a sei whale but we couldn’t confirm. After it, we continued and we could see another tail from Sperm whale, and then could spot a quite shy group of pilot whales.<\/span><\/div>\n

\nSo today, we spotted all these species that they are Odontoceti, like “vaquita” a porpoise that unfortunately is close to the extinction. And today Marina one of our biologist is going to do a presentation of this species. So looked like that all these seven species were interested in this presentation about one of the same group.   <\/span><\/div>\n

What a wonderful day at Pico Island! Today we saw five different cetaceans species. We had <\/span>pilot whales<\/a>, sperm whales, <\/span>Sowerby’s beaked whales<\/a>, and Bottlenose and <\/span>Atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n
