\nToday we had another adventurous day out on the ocean
\nwith different species to see throughout the day. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nIn the morning we encountered
\na large group of common dolphins close to Ponta Delgada. There were at least
\n200 individuals, all travelling together and accompanied by many small calves. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nWhen we returned to sea in the afternoon we were surprised to encounter two
\nSowerby’s beaked whales<\/a> close to shore, in an area only about 300 metres deep.
\nThis is pretty shallow for beaked whales and the other surpising thing is that
\nwe could see them really close to our boats. Normally beaked whales are very
\nshy and elusive, so we consider ourselves to be very lucky to have such a close
\nencounter with these two individuals. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nAlso in the afternoon we encountered a
\nlarge feeding group of Atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a>, and even further out in deep
\nwater we had an active group of striped dolphins. It was another great day out
\non the sea in S\u00e3o Miguel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nOn Pico Island, we had the 4 seasons! We started the day like we are fall season
\nand at lunchtime, we had the winter season. Then we waiting for spring and we
\nencountered male Risso\u2019s dolphins and a big group of pilot whales<\/a> with calves
\nand juveniles who were very curious about our boat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
