They, for instance, clean up beaches or try to reduce the number of plastics we use in our daily lives. And we can also help, <strong>decreasing our plastic consumption<\/strong>:<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>C<span lang=\"EN-US\">arry reusable shopping bags (over 700 plastic bags a year are consumed for every single person on the planet);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Carry a reusable water bottle or coffee cup in public (a normal plastic bottle\u00a0takes about 450 years to break down completely, so the components of a bottle dropped in the ocean today could still be polluting the waters for our great-great-great-\u2026-grandchildren);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Say no to straws or carry a metal straw in your bag (straws harm marine wildlife and ecosystems);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Switch to reusable menstrual products;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Avoid take-away food or food products that are wrapped in plastic or styrofoam;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>D<span lang=\"EN-US\">on\u2019t be fooled by \u201ccompostable\u201d plastic products. These items are only truly compostable in composting facilities (which we often don\u2019t have access to.);<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Do not support stores that use plastic, bring your own containers or avoid them completely;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Don\u2019t release balloons into the air. They travel far and end up in our oceans where they are often consumed by marine life that mistakes them for food;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Recycle. Learn how to if you weren\u2019t taught in school.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/turtlestraws.jpg\"><img src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/turtlestraws.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"900\" data-original-width=\"720\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">When traveling<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Pack reusable bags, containers and water bottles. Fill up your water bottle at restaurants or hotel fill-ups to avoid buying plastic;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Pack zero waste snacks for flights\/ travel. Re-use your food containers throughout your trip as you empty them;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cNo straw please\u201d, again;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Avoid takeout\/ delivery food and opt for local markets or restaurants instead;<\/li>\n<li>M<span lang=\"EN-US\">ake the effort to recycle your trash aboard. Wash it and carry it with you until you find proper disposal bins;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Opt for Eco-friendly accommodations. Give back to your vacation destination.
