The only ones left behind were the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Risso\u00b4s dolphins<\/a> that were sighted less often than the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/atlantic-spotted-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlantic Spotted Dolphins<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/fin-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fin Whales<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">The award this year goes to our friends <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bottlenose Dolphins<\/a>, which were present in about 65.2% of our tours, followed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Common Dolphins<\/a> with a rate of 57%. In the third place, we have our <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sperm Whales<\/a>, the largest animal in the world with teeth.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">The migratory whales began their tours to S\u00e3o Miguel in January, but started to appear almost every day at the end of March, with many sightings of Fin Whales.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">It was also a very good year for <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/01\/blue-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blue Whales<\/a>. They have kept up with the Fin Whales since the end of April, appearing for the last time in the middle of June. These large baleen whales usually pass through the Azores when the water is colder and when they start moving North (during Spring time). In June, the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/humpback-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Humpback Whales<\/a> were really present, always very close to the coast and with plenty of activity. The Atlantic Spotted Dolphins arrived at the beginning of June, but this year they chose to be further away from the shore. They probably had more food available far away from the coast.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">This year, we also saw some very shy species like the famous beaked whales. We were able to see the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/sowerbys-beaked-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sowerby&#8217;s Beaked Whale<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/blainvilles-beaked-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blainville\u00b4s<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/northern-bottlenose-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Northern Bottlenose Whale<\/a>. We can not forget to mention a very special visit in May: we saw a family of <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/orcakiller-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Orcas<\/a>! But it happened only one morning. ?<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">We did not see just whales and dolphins, we saw many flying fishes and a lot of different species of shearwaters.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial' , 'helvetica' , sans-serif;\">This year, we had a lot of tours on the North Coast, which gave us a better insight into what is going on around our island. If you pay attention to the maps, there is only a small part of the ocean around the island that does not receive so many visits from our boats.
