{"id":276,"date":"2019-03-18T17:54:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T17:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2019\/03\/18\/a-morning-of-great-sightings\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:39:02","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:39:02","slug":"a-morning-of-great-sightings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/a-morning-of-great-sightings\/","title":{"rendered":"A morning of great sightings!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"MsoListParagraph\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">This morning we experienced a perfect calm sea, probably the calmest and clearest waters so far this year.&nbsp;<\/span>Out there we encountered three of our resident cetacean species.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/1-3.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"600\" data-original-width=\"900\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/1-3.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraph\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">Our favourite encounter would have to be with the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sperm<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> whales<\/a>. We had to go far to see them and it took a while to find a nice group that stayed at the surface.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">But our patience paid off and we ended up seeing a big male. Within minutes the male was joined by several females who surfaced and went to join him one by one.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2-3.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"600\" data-original-width=\"900\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/2-3.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoListParagraph\">\n<span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">In the end we counted 7 females surrounding this big male, with all of them calm at the surface and sometimes rolling around to show parts of their head and tail tips.
