They are born\u00a0dark grey\u00a0 and accumulate more scars\u00a0throughout their life until they are almost white at maturity. These scars may\u00a0be caused by encounters with other Risso&#8217;s dolphins and from\u00a0their major prey item, squid.\u00a0Risso&#8217;s dolphins prefer deep\u00a0oceanic waters in temperate and tropical zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Azores, Risso&#8217;s dolphins typically\u00a0form small groups of fewer than 15 individuals. They often associate with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/squid-fact-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\">squid <\/a>fishing boats and occasionally also with groups of bottlenose dolphins and\u00a0pilot whales. Risso&#8217;s dolphins can be very\u00a0active at the surface, and they are sometimes seen breaching and lobtailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length:\u00a0<\/strong><br>\u2022\u00a0Male: 3.8
