Gervais<\/span>\u2019 beaked whales have
\nonly been identified a handful of times at sea because they are not often seen
\non the surface and they are difficult to distinguish from other beaked whale
\nspecies. They are very similar in appearance to True\u2019s beaked whales<\/a>, so individuals can often only be confirmed by close examination of stranded individuals.
\nLittle is known about their <\/span>behaviour<\/span>, but they are thought to form groups of just a few
\nindividuals. Like other beaked whales<\/a> they feed on fish and squid<\/a> and spend
\nonly an estimated 8% of their time on the surface. They are thought to be able
\nto dive to at least 1,500 <\/span>meters deep.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\ndata, Gervais\u2019 beaked whales are
\nthought to inhabit tropical to subtropical waters of the Atlantic. Sightings in
\nthe Azores are very rare and can usually never be confirmed due to the
\ndifficulty in identifying this species.
