Despite the windy rainy days and rough sea conditions, we were still able to go out several times and enjoyed some really beautiful trips, full of surprises and unexpected findings.

During October we were able to see 6 different species of whales and dolphins.

The common dolphins didn’t fail us and we could sight them in all of our trips. Always curious with our boats, socializing, feeding and jumping. We never get tired of them. Along with the Atlantic spotted dolphins were the most sighted species.

We also found lots of bottlenose dolphins and sperm whales, two of the resident species of these islands.

Our loyal sperm whale Mr Liable appeared in several occasions, sometimes interacting with a female sperm whale.

Sei whales appeared in 9 different trips and one day we even found a humpback whale. Baleen whales are always amazing to see, with its majestic way of swimming, their imposing size and the incredible noise of their blow when they surface in order to breath.

The big absence of the month were the Risso’s dolphins, we didn’t see them in the whole month.

Besides that there was a notable presence of Cory’s shearwaters, the juvenile individuals are now leaving the nests with limited flying ability and we must keep an eye for individuals in difficult situations and help them get to the shore safe and sound.

Let’s see what November holds for us!

The month of October was heavily marked by the presence of two tropical storms: Lorenzo and Melissa.
