{"id":2465,"date":"2007-08-07T21:56:00","date_gmt":"2007-08-07T21:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/07\/new-group-of-sperm-whales-on-south-of\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:26:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:26:44","slug":"new-group-of-sperm-whales-on-south-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/new-group-of-sperm-whales-on-south-of\/","title":{"rendered":"A new group of sperm whales sighted on the south coast of Pico Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nToday we had 3 tours, all of them with <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sperm whale<\/a> encounters!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nOn Sunday a&nbsp;new group of sperm whales appeared along the south coast of <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_0\">Pico<\/span><\/span> Island. We resighted this new group both yesterday and today and both days we did not know where to look because there were whales everywhere! Today we encountered them close to <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_1\">Queimada<\/span><\/span>, and our&nbsp;biologist <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_2\">Romeno<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;took&nbsp;photos of the &#8220;new tails of <span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\"><span class=\"blsp-spelling-error\" id=\"SPELLING_ERROR_3\">Pico<\/span><\/span>&#8221; for our sperm whale catalogue. Some of the whales were very curious and they were spyhopping, showing us their heads and they came high out of the water. The most impressive whale of the group was a very large male that was huge alongside the much smaller females and calves.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nOfcourse we cannot forget the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/pilot-whale-spp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pilot whales<\/a> we saw today and in many previous days, the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/atlantic-spotted-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a> that were playing with our boat in the beginning of today&#8217;s tour and the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bottlenose dolphins<\/a> we encountered right at the end of the tour.
