{"id":2416,"date":"2008-04-06T10:15:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-06T10:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2008\/04\/06\/more-false-killer-whales\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:26:59","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:26:59","slug":"more-false-killer-whales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/more-false-killer-whales\/","title":{"rendered":"More false killer whales"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_oP1dI2XxmSE\/R_iuV1BgB2I\/AAAAAAAAAF8\/f8Snvfv6hLM\/s1600-h\/P1030451.JPG\"><img alt=\"\" border=\"0\" height=\"480\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5186086660950984546\" src=\"http:\/\/bp1.blogger.com\/_oP1dI2XxmSE\/R_iuV1BgB2I\/AAAAAAAAAF8\/f8Snvfv6hLM\/s1600\/P1030451.JPG\" style=\"display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<i>False killer whales<\/i><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nYesterday was the day of the false killer whales.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nIn the morning the weather was nice and we went to eastern part of the island where our vigia (onshore lookout) had spotted a lot of dolphins: <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common dolphins<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bottlenose dolphins<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Risso&#8217;s dolphins<\/a>. We also received news that the vigia had spotted a group of animals that seemed to be <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/false-orcafalse-killer-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">false killer whales<\/a>. First we&nbsp;observed the common and bottlenose dolphins, then we went further to confirm that it was in fact false killer whales that our vigia had spotted. It was a group of more than 40 individuals, travelling very fast to the west. We had the chance of observing big males as well as females that were very confident with their calves (babies) around the boats. After this incredible encounter we still had time for a quick look at the Risso&#8217;s dolphins. It was a fantastic morning with four cetacean species!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nIn the afternoon the weather was not so good, but we headed wet hopping that we could encounter whales again. Luck was on our side as we encountered the false killer whales again, just south of Relva. We also resighted the bottlenose dolphins, so it turned out to be a very good tour, especially considering the deteriorating weather conditions.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"False killer whales Yesterday was the day of the false killer whales.
