The above graph summarises the percentage of days that we were able to see each species throughout the entire month. The highest sighting rate goes to the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/atlantic-spotted-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atlantic spotted dolphins (<em>Stenella frontalis<\/em>)<\/a> which were sighted every day of the month that we went out. As expected, we have also had relatively high sighting rates of our resident dolphins: the <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bottlenose dolphins (<em>Tursiops truncatus<\/em>)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common dolphins (<em>Delphinus delphis<\/em>)<\/a>. August is usually a good month to see many sperm whales in the Azores. Although the sighting rate for <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sperm whales (<em>Physeter macrocephalus<\/em>)<\/a> wasn\u00b4t as high as expected, we still saw them on more than half of the days that we went out. We have also had several good days that we had bonus encounters with <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/striped-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Risso\u00b4s dolphins (<em>Grampus griseus<\/em>)<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/pilot-whale-spp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pilot whales (<em>Globicephala macrorhynchus<\/em>)<\/a> and even some elusive <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/beaked-whale-fact-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">beaked whales (<em>Mesoplodon sp<\/em>.)<\/a>.
