We had the highest sighting rate of the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common dolphins<\/a>, followed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bottlenose dolphins<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"-webkit-font-kerning: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"-webkit-font-kerning: none;\"><span style=\"font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">In terms of whales, we had several species sightings as well!&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">April is the start of Baleen whale season; however, it seems like the whales arrived slightly late this year. In the first 10 days of April, we had not seen any baleen whales. We did have an unusual visitor on the 9th of April, when we had a great encounter with <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/false-orcafalse-killer-whale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">false killer whales<\/a>! We see these species only irregularly, so it is always a surprise when they show up!&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">Then, our first encounter of a baleen whale was the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2019\/04\/a-humpback-whale-showing-up-off-coast.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">humpback whale on the 11th of April.<\/a> We had a total of four sightings of humpback whales. Then, our <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2019\/04\/a-blue-whale-but-not-only.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first blue whale sighting was the 21st of April<\/a>. This was followed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2019\/04\/a-day-with-sei-whales-and-fin-whales.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fin whale and Sei whale encounter on the 26th of April<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\">The last species that we sighted, only once this month, was a group of <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Risso\u2019s dolphins<\/a>! We had some other bird species that we sighted; several <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/pomarine-skua-fact-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pomarine skuas<\/a>, almost daily sightings of the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/common-tern-fact-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">common terns<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/great-skua-fact-sheet.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">great skuas<\/a>. We even managed to see <a href=\"https:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.com\/2007\/06\/caretta-caretta-loggerhead-turtle.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">loggerhead turtles<\/a> 9 days this month!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/04avril2019-1024x724.png\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"1132\" data-original-width=\"1600\" height=\"452\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/04avril2019-1024x724.png\" width=\"640\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-family: &quot;arial&quot; , &quot;helvetica&quot; , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-text-stroke-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); -webkit-text-stroke-width: initial; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: justify;\">\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">So, although we started to have regular sightings of baleen whales in the last month of April, we had a month full of marine mammals, birds, and turtles!
