{"id":2104,"date":"2012-01-20T22:33:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-20T22:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/20\/20-sperm-whales-sighted-together-at\/"},"modified":"2019-11-22T22:28:24","modified_gmt":"2019-11-22T22:28:24","slug":"20-sperm-whales-sighted-together-a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/20-sperm-whales-sighted-together-a\/","title":{"rendered":"20 sperm whales sighted together at the surface!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\" trbidi=\"on\">\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\">\nToday we encountered a very large group of <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: blue;\">sperm whales<\/span> <\/a>\ufeffoff the S\u00e3o Miguel coastline. At one stage our skipper counted about 20 sperm whales on the surface together!&nbsp;The sperm whale&nbsp;group was actually larger than the groups of <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\">common dolphins<\/a> we also saw on our tour. The sperm whales were socialsing at the surface, so we got to see one breach (a whale jumping out of the water), grouping up behaviour, spyhopping (whales raising their heads out of the water) and a few very curious individuals passing close to our boat.
