\nToday the calm and deep blue Ocean with the full sun shining through the sky really brought us to a beautiful \u2018\u2019summer day\u2019\u2019.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\nWe had our first sighting of pilot whales from Pico Island! <\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n

\nWe were with the same pod both at morning and during the afternoon. They were travelling slowly and resting close to shore. It was a numerous group with lots of juveniles and calves. One of the smallest calves seemed to be really young. It was still learning how to swim and surface properly (he was doing it, of course, but still with a quite clumsy way\u2026)<\/span>

\nDuring today\u2019s trip we were also able to observe a pod of <\/span>Bottlenose dolphins <\/a> really close to shore.<\/span>
\n

\nThey were quite calm at surface, taking deep dives in-between the surfacing periods. As we were navigating through the Ocean, we met several pods of common dolphins feeding on small schooling fish along with Cory shearwaters. <\/span>Both species were jumping high and splashing their bodies against the water.<\/span>
\n
<\/span><\/p>\n

\nOur spotter saw one big adult and lonely sperm whale male on the morning (\u2026it was not the same we were with yesterday!) and a group of females with at least one calf on the afternoon.<\/span>

   <\/span><\/p>\n

\n We were mostly alone with several different whales during different surfacing times. It is always a special encounter with these calm females, resting at surface with their calves close to them\u2026 and the most important is to respect their space so we can do the best wild observation possible without bothering too much these beautiful mammals during these so important social and resting periods!<\/span><\/div>\n
