Throughout the month we sighted 9 different cetacean species. This time of the year we always have a high chance of seeing <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\">sperm whales<\/a> which is a resident species here, and it is also the time of year that we see many large groups of dolphins with many babies in the groups.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/8-Agosto-2012-sightings-graph-1024x671.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img border=\"0\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/whalewatchingazores.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/8-Agosto-2012-sightings-graph-1024x671.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\nThis month&#8217;s sighting statistics were:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/fin-whale.html\">Fin whale<\/a> (<i>Balaenoptera physalus<\/i>) &#8211; 4%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sperm-whale.html\">Sperm whale<\/a> (<i>Physeter macrocephalus<\/i>) &#8211; 62%<\/li>\n<li>Beaked whale (Both <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/sowerbys-beaked-whale.html\">Sowerby&#8217;s<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/blainvilles-beaked-whale.html\">Blainville&#8217;s beaked whales<\/a> were sighted) &#8211; 15%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/pilot-whale-spp.html\">Pilot whale<\/a> (<i>Globicephalus macrorhynchus<\/i>) &#8211; 8%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/rissos-dolphin.html\">Risso&#8217;s dolphin<\/a> (<i>Grampus griseus<\/i>) &#8211; 35%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/striped-dolphin.html\">Striped dolphin<\/a> (<i>Stenella coeruleoalba<\/i>) &#8211; 15%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/atlantic-spotted-dolphin.html\">Atlantic spotted dolphin<\/a> (<i>Stenella frontalis<\/i>) &#8211; 73%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/bottlenose-dolphin.html\">Bottlenose dolphin<\/a> (<i>Tursiops truncatus<\/i>) &#8211; 35%<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/azoreswhales.blogspot.pt\/2007\/07\/common-dolphin.html\">Common dolphin<\/a> (<i>Delphinus delphis<\/i>) &#8211; 85%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The month of August was really good for whale watching here in S\u00e3o Miguel.
