\nsome of our boats managed to see <\/span>bottlenose dolphins<\/a>. It was a big group, very
\nactive and socialising. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\nSome of our other boats were further east seeing as
\nwell some common dolphins<\/a>. <\/span><\/span>They were very active, probably feeding with plenty
\nof shearwaters on top. <\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
\nBut the star of the day, was without any doubt, our
\nbeloved Mr. Liable<\/a>. This male sperm whale has been around the island on the
\nlast few days, and today amazed us with his huge tail several times. So.. he
\nwas foraging, both in the morning and afternoon!<\/span>  <\/span>Who knows how much food does he need to be
\nsatisfied! Furthermore, we took our chance to listen to him. Did you know that
\nsperm whales<\/a> have the most powerful echolocation sound of the animal kingdom??
\nAnd they use it when foraging! So today.. perfect occasion to use our hydrophone
\nwith this amazing male sperm whale!<\/span>

\nIn
\nthe afternoon Mr Liable<\/a> was still around so we went to the area where he was
\ndiving and managed to track him by listening to his foraging click on our
\nhydrophone. As he almost does, this big sperm whale did not dissapoint us when
\nhe came up to the surface. We managed to see him for a long time as he was up
\nbreathing, before he showed us another magnificent tail. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n
<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nThe dolphins were also
\nreally nice in the afternoon. From our catamaran we encountered a small group of
\ncommon dolphins after Mr Liable dived, and from one of our small boats some
\nstriped dolphins<\/a> were also seen before the encounter with the sperm whale.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nOne of our
\nsmall boats also saw the striped dolphins. They were socializing and leaping
\nout of the water showing their bellies! This kind of behaviour is not very
\ncommon for the striped dolphins here around s<\/span>\u00e3<\/span><\/span>o Miguel. They also
\nhad lots of calves. They are a beautiful species to encounter.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
