\n<\/a>Today’s highlight was a breaching sperm whale<\/a> during our morning tour. The lone individual jumped completely out of the water several times so that everybody on our boats was able to see the massive leaping whale. After the breaching came some lobtailing (tail slapping on the water) so that we were able to get an ID photo and recognise the whale as being one we call “Sumo”. We first identified this adult female here in July 2010 and since then she has been resighted on many occasions. These resightings help us learn more about the whales that pass here and our photo-ID work is an important part of the research we do here at Futurismo.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nDuring the morning we also encountered a lovely group of common dolphins<\/a> that were very calm and curious towards our boats and along our travels were were also accompanied by several small groups of Atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a> leaping alongside us. Our swimmers throughout the day have been swimming with common dolphins, spotted dolphins and bottlenose dolphins<\/a>, the same three species our afternoon whale watching boats saw. Unfortunately we couldn’t find “Sumo” from the morning, but dolphins makes us all smile happily. <\/div>\n
