\nThis afternoon we had sperm whales<\/a> visiting S\u00e3o Miguel to the West of the island. After an absence of a few days it was nice to have them back and it was well worth the 1 hour journey to see them (it was great spotting from our vigia<\/a> that found them from his post on land during the end of the morning). Between our boats we saw at least 11 different whales that were grouping at the surface so that we were able to see sometimes up to 8 whales together. We spotted several small whales too among the adult females. Although in the morning we didn’t see the whales we did actually see more species. In the morning we encountered common dolphins<\/a>, Atlantic spotted dolphins<\/a> and a lone bottlenose dolphin<\/a>, whereas in the afternoon we only encountered common dolphins to add to our sperm whale encounter.<\/div>\n
