\nSperm whales<\/a> are showing there presence more often now in the Azores as we are coming into the summer months which is the best time of the year to see them here. This morning we went out on the ocean and encountered a family group spread out in a large area. Like yesterday we had to be a patient to see a tail, but after some time with 4 sperm whales that were at the surface together we did get to see one. The whales were coming and going, sometimes at the surfaces and sometimes just under on shallow dives. At the end of our sperm whale encounters we even got to see one in the distance breach (leap out of the water) once and lobtail (slap its tail on the water’s surface) just after. We also encountered a large group of pilot whales<\/a>, another species that we see more frequently during the warmer months in the Azores. To finish the tour nicely, on our way back in we spotted a social group of common dolphins<\/a>. They were happy to come to us to bowride, giving us the great opportunity to hear their whistles and see their newborn babies.<\/p>\n
