We already know that plastics are contaminating our oceans and that we must combat this catastrophe. But did you know that fishing nets are another major cause of mortality in our oceans? 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets are discarded or lost in the sea every year, with devastating impacts to marine life, as they can last 600 years in the ocean. It’s estimated that these “ghost nets” capture and kill 136,000 seals, sea lions, turtles and large whales every year.
During all our trips we try to help the ocean, and today during our trip we collected a big “rope” that was lost in the ocean. We also saw a big group of common dolphins playing and socializing.
