What an exciting trip we had today, with 4 species of cetaceans and a surprise visit of a whale shark!
Soon after we left the port, we were greeted by a group of common dolphins, which we haven’t seen for many days so we were happy to meet them again. They had plenty of tiny calves!
Then, we got news from our lookout about a sei whale on sight, and when we arrived to the area we found out there were 2 of them! Apparently, one of the sei whales had its dorsal fin almost entirely cut – so it will be interesting to compare the photos we took of it with others and try to identify this specific individual.
After spending some time with the pair of sei whales, we continued our trip and saw a playful group of Atlantic spotted dolphins with plenty of calves as well.
After them, we saw one more dolphin species! A big group of bottlenose dolphins, which were swimming right next to our boat and everyone got the chance to see them from so close. When we put a hydrophone underwater, we could also hear their vocalizations! And even the music from the fishermen loud and clear!
But the big surprise was still waiting for us. We got news about a whale shark swimming somewhere around! And finally, we saw a huuuge tail sticking out of the water. The calmness and clearness of the water even allowed us to see the gigantic patterned body of this world’s biggest fish, and this surely gave everyone a doze of emotions!
It was an amazing surprise and the best imaginable ending of a great trip. Join us next time!
